Full Name
Matthew Saacks P.E.
Job Title
Co-Founder and President
Company
Ampirical Solutions, LLC.
Speaker Bio
Matthew has over thirty-seven years of experience in the transmission and distribution industry, beginning with a multi-state electric utility where he made the transition from installing devices in the field to designing protective relay schemes. Later efforts included transferring to an unregulated affiliate to begin selling services to the broader power delivery marketplace.
In 2006, he and two other key employees formed Ampirical Solutions, LLC to pursue project opportunities in this industry. Ampirical has grown considerably and is currently staffed by almost five hundred employees, most of them occupying firm headquarters in Covington, Louisiana. Other office locations include San Diego, San Ramon, and Sacramento, California; Duluth, Georgia; and remote employees in other US locations. The company performs both stand-alone engineering projects and EPC (Engineering, Procurement, and Construction) projects in the high voltage transmission arena.
Ampirical’s owners formed a few sister companies in the last several years to support changes in the power grid marketplace. Cybirical, LLC blends an optimal mix of power system knowledge and experience with the nascent cyberengineering field to offer unique solutions to the issues transmission owners face in today’s digital environment. GridIntel, LLC was recently formed to provide custom software solutions to asset managers, capitalizing on the inherent talent in both Ampirical and Cybirical. Compere Construction, LLC provides skilled workers for the construction of high voltage substations and distribution lines.
Matthew handles or directs company executive management activities for all four companies, such as business development, strategic planning, risk management, financial management, contract review and negotiation, and more.
He earned a B.S.E.E. from Louisiana Tech University, and also holds an M.B.A. from the A.B. Freeman School of Business at Tulane University and a Masters in Engineering from the University of New Orleans. He is a registered Professional Engineer in Louisiana, Mississippi, Arkansas, Texas, North Carolina, Michigan, and Ohio. He is also the Qualifying Party for the company’s electrical Contractor’s Licenses in Louisiana, Mississippi, Arkansas, Texas, and Kentucky.
